The Russian Federation Council approves the use of military personnel abroad
Moscow: The Russian Federation Council, or upper house of parliament, has approved Russian President Vladimir Putin’s request to use military personnel abroad.
“The senators unanimously supported the adoption of the relevant resolution,” said a statement posted on the Federation Council’s website on Tuesday.
Putin on Tuesday presented a proposal for the Federation Council to approve a resolution authorizing the use of the Russian Federation’s armed forces abroad based on generally accepted principles and norms of international law, according to the Kremlin. .
Earlier on Tuesday, the Russian State Duma, the lower house of parliament, ratified the treaties of friendship, cooperation and mutual assistance with “the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR)” and “the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR)” during a plenary session, Xinhua news agency reports.
The Russian president signed the treaties on Monday, along with the heads of the LPR and DPR. He also signed two decrees on Monday recognizing the LPR and the DPR as independent and sovereign states.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Tuesday morning that Kyiv had urged the international community to hold emergency talks on Russia’s decision on the status of Donetsk and Luhansk regions in eastern Ukraine.
