The Federation Council has commented on possible G7 sanctions against Russia

The initiative of the G7 states to introduce new sanctions against Russia has no basis. Olga Kovitidi, a member of the Crimean Federation Council, told Izvestia about this, commenting on the statement of the G7 finance ministers in the context of the situation in Ukraine to impose sanctions on Russia.

The senator stressed that Russia is not a party to the conflict in Ukraine and is not interested in creating a new hotbed of tension in the center of Europe.

The day before, the countries of the Group of Seven (G7) had announced that they were ready to impose severe economic sanctions against Moscow in the event of an invasion of Russian forces in Ukraine. The G7 finance ministers’ statement stressed that the G7 states intend to act quickly and decisively to support Ukraine’s economy and efforts to defuse tensions with Moscow through diplomatic dialogue.

Earlier it became known that the leaders of the G7 countries may hold a meeting on the situation around Ukraine in an online format on February 24. Bloomberg wrote that the leaders of Germany, France, Italy, Japan, the United States, Canada and Britain are considering imposing sanctions on Russia.
