The Council of the Russian Federation approves changes to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation relating to the removal of wrecks

The amendments specify the mechanism and procedure for the removal of wrecks

The Council of the Russian Federation said that it approved amendments to certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation relating to the removal of wrecks at its 515th session held today, December 24, 2021.

As previously reported, the State Duma of the Russian Federation adopted the related bill (No. 1219892-7) at its plenary session held on December 22, 2021. The “Draft Law on the Introduction of amendments in certain legislative acts of the Russian Federation ”concerned with the removal of wrecks specifies the mechanism and procedure for the removal of wrecks.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed the bill “On the Ratification of the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007” into Federal Law (No. 395-FL) on December 6, 2021). The document was published on the official Internet portal for legal information. According to Ivan Abramov, vice-chairman of the Economic Policy Committee of the Council of the Federation, in the framework of Russia’s accession to the Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, changes must be introduced in the Code of Merchant Navy of the Russian Federation, Inland Water Transport Code, Water Code, RF Law “On International Commercial Arbitration” and Federal Laws “On Inland Sea Waters, Territorial Sea and Area contiguous of the Russian Federation ”and“ on jurisdictional immunities of a foreign state and its property in the Russian Federation ”.
