Quote from Matviyenko: “We respect the will of the inhabitants of the ‘DPR’ and the ‘LPR’ [the self-proclaimed Donetsk and Luhansk People’s Republics] and Zaporizhzhia and Kherson oblasts, and if that’s what they want from their side – to join Russia – then we will definitely support that.”
Details: At the same time, Matviyenko stressed that there is no need to hold an extraordinary meeting.
She also said the last day for mock referendums in the occupied territories would be September 27, so the results could be finalized on September 28 or “in the next few days”.
According to Matviyenko, the next regular meeting of the Federation Council will take place on October 4.
“I think we will be ready to consider them [laws on the accession of new subjects to the Russian Federation – ed.] October 4 if everything is confirmed,” she said.
