Moscow (VNA) – Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc met Valentina Matvienko, President of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, in Moscow on December 1 as part of her official visit to the Russian Federation.
President Phuc affirmed that Vietnam still considers the Russian Federation as a priority in its foreign policy and supports the Russian Federation to have a greater role and voice in the region and in the world.
At the same time, Matvienko stressed that President Phuc’s visit this time will create new motivation to strengthen bilateral relations as the two countries celebrate the 20th anniversary of their strategic partnership (2001-2021) and prepare for the 10th anniversary of the Comprehensive Strategic Agreement. Partnership (2012-2022).
The two leaders appreciated the positive development of bilateral relations, especially in the fields of politics, trade, economy, investment, defense and security, energy, education and science, despite the severe impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.

For his part, Matvienko affirmed that the Federation Council always supports the strengthening of relations with Vietnam and continues to work closely with the Vietnamese NA to accelerate the implementation of agreements and cooperation projects between the two. countries, including those concluded between President Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
The Federation Council will continue to serve as a bridge to strengthen cooperation between provinces and cities of the two countries, she said.
The two leaders said they would continue to promote the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership in a thorough and effective manner, including collaboration between the two parliaments./.
