MMFA Hosts the 52nd Meeting of the ASEAN Builders Federation Council, Conference

KUALA LUMPUR (October 17): The 2022 Asean Builders Federation (ACF) Conference was held on Monday, October 17 to bring together the expertise, vision, knowledge and experience of members of the ACF in adopting and implementing new technologies that would help pave the way for the future of digitalization.

Organized by the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM), the 52nd ACF Council Meeting and Conference was held at the Sunway Resort Hotel.

According to a press release, the ACF conference was launched by the Director General of the Construction Industry Development Council, Datuk Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid, and was attended by 150 participants from eight ASEAN countries. . The theme of the conference was “Together Shaping the Future of Construction in Asean”.

In his speech, MMFA President Oliver Wee said the conference was very timely as it upheld the principles of open regionalism, while ensuring the centrality and unity of ASEAN in the evolving regional and global arenas. .

He also highlighted how ACF can play a leadership role in bringing all ACF members together to have a breakthrough in technology adoption mindset. He further added that the construction industry is ripe for disruption in these times, in part due to how the Covid-19 pandemic has affected the way operations are conducted.

“One of the biggest contributors to this sluggishness was that industry practitioners were reluctant to take the first step in adopting the technologies. Digital technologies hold untapped promise to address this challenge, particularly the use of “Internet of Things to improve connectivity. A particular strategy that has been fundamental in the transformation process is the integration of all construction processes using multiple technology solutions – more commonly referred to as Integrated Digital Delivery (IDD ).

“IDD generally promotes the use of intelligent solutions, advanced information communication systems and building information modeling – a three-dimensional technology. Eventually, digital construction will transform the construction industry, and it is imperative that ACF members work together with their respective public sectors to drive growth as a whole,” he said.

The statement adds that the MMFA currently holds two key positions within the ACF: former MMFA President Foo Chek Lee is the current President of the ACF, while MMFA Vice President Eric Yong , is the general secretary of the ACF.

After the ACF conference, the 52nd ACF Board meeting took place, during which the representatives of the member countries presented the current situation of their respective construction economies.

The statement also said the meeting was significant as one of ACF’s objectives is to unify the efforts of construction contractors in the ASEAN region in promoting the export of construction services to countries. countries outside the ASEAN region and to pool resources if necessary.
