Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council Karelova: Cancer mortality in 2021 decreased by 3.9%
Federation Council Deputy Speaker Galina Karelova spoke about the functioning of the federal program adopted in 2019 for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of cancer.
Despite the difficult epidemiological situation, in general, in Russia there has been a downward trend in cancer mortality: in 2020 – by almost 1%, in 2021 – by 3.9%, she said. said in an interview with “Parliamentary newspaper”.
“In Russia, the fight against cancer is one of the priorities of public health policy. Thus, within the framework of the national “Health” project, since 2019, a separate federal project “Fight against cancer” has been set up. It aims to reduce the death rate from oncological diseases, develop primary care, strengthen the human resources of the oncological service and introduce modern technologies. About 1 trillion rubles are provided for the entire duration of the project until 2024,” Karelova said.
According to her, in order to implement the project, regional programs have been approved in 85 regions. The corresponding infrastructure is also being developed, including the establishment of outpatient cancer care centres.
